Project: Rural Income Generation Support (RINGS)

Caritas Switzerland Country Office for Kosovo is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified candidate for the position of an Agronomist for Agricultural Project in Kosovo

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Agronomist supports the implementation of the Project RINGS, in line with CaCH rules and regulations.

Start of employment will be ASAP with an initial duration of contract until the end of 2018 and a possibility of a longer term extension.

Working place:Initially in the Caritas Switzerland Office in Prizren with subsequent moving to Prishtina and with frequent travels to the field, across the country.

Position summary:

The Agronomistwill implement activities planned under the project RINGS, in line with the given logic of intervention described in the approved project document, in compliance with CaCH rules and regulations and donor requirements.

Main responsibilities

  • Participate on selection of farmers that are benefiting in the project and in distribution of agricultural inputs (e.g. seedlings and production materials) to farmers, visiting farmers to identify and evaluate their technical requirements, capacity and knowledge
  • Promotion of Organic and Integrated Production standards; assisting farmers and farmers associations as well as advisory service with business planning, planning applications, government grant applications, legislative advice and new business ventures;
  • Conduct on-site visit including inspection in the filed by visiting the planting surfaces and provide adequate advice to beneficiary farmers on cultivation, collection, planting and usage of effective pest control measures.
  • Facilitate exposure visits for participating farmers; Advise farmers and farmers organisations in procurement of agricultural inputs (incl. seed materials) in Kosovo and abroad; ensure professional training and agricultural extension for participating farmers;
  • Collecting and analysing data, crop yield and financial reports to measure performance; organising and conducting field trails to find solution to farmers` problems; planning and implementing improvements for farmers on IPM
  • Organising presentations, demonstrations, training and farm walks for farmers and their organisations, professional bodies and other interested groups; communicating effectively, both in writing and orally, with farmers, colleagues and members of the public;
  • Contribute to writing advisory leaflets, brochures, technical notes and possibly press release and articles; marketing and promoting consultancy services to new farmers, while maintaining existing farmers relationship;
  • Support senior project staff in negotiating with any providers/sellers of seed or other materials related to agriculture; researching and keeping up to date with any relevant developments in agriculture
  • Undertaking administrative duties, managing budgets and accounts, updating information and preparing reports; liaises with academia (e.g. Agriculture Faculty of University of Prishtina) on behalf of the project for their strong involvement and exchange.


  • University degree with minimum 3 years of working experience in Agriculture, preferably in Pomology, and plant protection
  • Excellent knowledge Albanian and Serbian languages (both written and spoken) preferably working English. Very good knowledge of computer Office applications (Word, Excel and Power Point)
  • Extensive work experience in conducting field assessmentof potential beneficiaries / farmers in rural areas
  • Good knowledge on providing the advisory services on cultivation, collection, planting and other necessary information Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
  • Significant, relevant experience in Organic and Integrated Production standards
  • Knowledge on organic agriculture and the requirements, procedures of certification program for organic production
  • Working experience on agriculture business planning and cost benefit calculation for grant packages
  • Team work and communication skills, Flexibility to travel in the field and flexibility in working hours; valid driving licence
  • A Valid driving licence
